How Interactive Poster Games Work: Indoor Team Building in 5 Easy Steps

@Warren Glenn

Planning team building indoors usually means a choice between a quick icebreaker nobody remembers and a big production that takes weeks to organize. Interactive poster games sit right in the middle: real competition and real laughs, with almost no setup on your side (and we take care of all the customizations behind the scenes).

The idea is simple. Colourful themed game posters go up around your space, teams watch our host introduction, scan in, and the race is on. We built a short video that walks through the whole thing in about a minute.

How it works, in 5 steps

1. Pick your game (the hard part, the agony - yes they are all fun)

Choose one of our poster games: Who Kidnapped YOUR Boss?, Great Scott! or Where in the World. Each one mixes puzzles, photo and video challenges, so every type of player gets a moment to shine from strategists and puzzle hounds to creatives and wallflowers. Want to go further? We can put your own team on the posters as the stars of the story and we build themed posters!

2. We print and ship your posters

Full-colour posters arrive ready to go, in large, extra large or tabletop sizes. Rather print them yourself? We'll send you the files.

3. We set everything up behind the scenes

Before game day, we handle the details: game timing, team codes, challenges and any customizations you've asked for. When your group arrives, the game is ready to play - and we are ready to support your game.

4. Game day

Put the posters up anywhere around your space: walls, easels, tables, around the room or across the whole venue. This could be a single room or a sprawling campus.

Everyone gathered? Press play and your host comes on the screen and walks everyone through how the game works, so you don't have to. Rather have us stand there in person and do it - we can arrange that!

Then teams play. For ~75 minutes (depending on your space - if you are walking building to building, we'll need a bit longer). Teams move from poster to poster, solving puzzles and taking on photo and video challenges while racing up a live leaderboard.

5. The wrap-up

The game's over, but the fun isn't.

Play the wrap-up video to reveal your winners on the podium, then start an instant slideshow of every team's photos and videos. It's usually the loudest part of the day.

Want more? Don't dare us. We've got a lot more.

Why poster games work so well indoors

Poster games get people up and moving, talking to each other and working together, without anyone needing to leave the area. Want to include a bit of outdoors? Easy. Want to keep them in one room - no problem. Only one person per team needs a phone to submit the answers.

The posters give the room a focal point, and the real magic comes from the people in it.

They fit almost anywhere you gather:

  • Conference centres and breakout spaces
  • Offices, for a team day or an all-hands
  • Campuses (big or small)
  • Hotels, for retreats and offsites
  • Other unique venues

We've hosted more than 500,000 players, and poster games are one of the easiest ways we know to turn a room full of colleagues into a room full of teams.

Quick FAQ

How long does a poster game take?

The entire start to finish is typically 90 minutes (including intros and wrap up).

Do we need a host?

You don't need one. Our host video explains the game, and the wrap-up runs the winners' reveal and slideshow for you. However, we have virtual support (to do fun things like live scoring and special winners) and we can send our team on site for a larger production.

Does everyone need the Social Scavenger app?

No. Only one person per team needs a phone to play. And they don't even need to download our app - the web app will do.

Can we customize the game?

Yes. Yes you can. We can add your own challenges, and for some games we can put your team on the posters.

Can we print the posters ourselves?

If you'd like to. We can ship printed posters, or send you the files to print locally. If you want lots of posters - that's an option too. i.e. we have a huge space and people all over. No problem - duplicates is the answer. Many offices? No problem - just more posters.
